Add the Query Loop Block: In the Block Editor, click the “+” icon and search for “Query Loop.” Select it to add to your page or post.
Choose a Pattern or Start Blank:
-In the Query block start by clicking CHOOSE. WordPress will prompt you to choose from several layout options. Select a pre-made pattern or start with a blank layout. I suggest the pre-made patterns for now.
I prefer the “small image on the left” option.
Customize the Query:
To adjust what posts to display (by category, tags, author, etc.) set the number of posts, order, and pagination you will need to customize in BLOCK on the right side of the page.
–TIP: click on the three lines on the top left. This is a display of all your blocks. Go down and click on the Query Block.
-On the right side, under Blocks, toggle off “Inherit Query from Template.”
-Chose your post type. Where do you publish your articles? In news or local?
-Next how do you want it sorted? I would choose newest to oldest.
-You can Filter further using Taxonomies, Arthur, or Keywords but be careful. It looks at all articles and pulls from them based on your filter.
Style Your Layout:
-Back on the article, click on the entire Query block to enable the option box in the top corner. Click on Filters. You will see “how items per page”, “off set”, and ‘max per page. Set “off set” to 1. The article you are working on is the newest. This will ensure it doesn’t show up in Query.
-Customize the appearance using the block editor’s styling options, (this is under block on the right) like changing fonts, colors, or spacing. ****I make the text smaller, because sit appears too large on the actual article as it is. Simply click on the title. It is set H2 by default. I usually set mine to H4.
